MarketUK.uk is committed to producing journalism that is accurate, independent, transparent and fair. Every piece of content published on our platform is subject to a rigorous editorial process designed to uphold the highest standards of integrity and to serve the interests of our British audience. This policy sets out how we decide what we publish, how we review it, how we distinguish between different types of content and how we hold ourselves accountable.
Editorial process and review
Before any article is published, it is reviewed by an editor. This applies to all content – news, analysis, explainers, opinion, reviews, guides, sponsored material and any other form of editorial output. The editor checks for factual accuracy, clarity, adherence to our style guide, appropriate sourcing and compliance with legal and regulatory requirements.
For stories that involve heightened sensitivity or potential impact, an additional layer of review is applied. Such stories include:
- financial claims that could influence investment decisions or market movements
- market-moving data, including economic statistics, company earnings and regulatory announcements
- company reporting, including mergers, acquisitions, board changes, insolvencies and material commercial developments
- legal matters, allegations of wrongdoing, regulatory investigations or litigation
- consumer finance issues such as mortgages, pensions, savings products or debt advice
- tax-related explainers and commentary that might affect readers’ financial decisions
- stories involving private individuals who are not public figures
These pieces are additionally reviewed by Sophie Kendall, our Standards & Fact-Checking Lead, who undertakes source verification, cross-referencing of data and checks for potential legal or reputational risk. No sensitive story is published without her sign-off or that of the Editor-in-Chief.
Clear distinction between content types
We maintain a clear separation between different categories of content so that readers can always assess the nature and reliability of what they are reading. Each article is explicitly labelled with its format.
- News: factual reporting of events, company announcements, economic data releases and developments. Written by staff journalists or accredited contributors.
- Opinion: authored by a named individual and represents their personal views or analysis. Always clearly marked as opinion.
- Features: longer-form, narrative or investigative articles that combine reporting, analysis and context.
- Explainers: educational pieces that break down complex topics – economic terms, policy changes, market mechanisms – into accessible language.
- Reviews: product or service assessments based on independent testing or user experience. See our Reviews Policy for methodology.
- Guides: practical, step-by-step resources for consumers, investors and professionals.
- Sponsored content: paid-for material commissioned by a commercial partner. Clearly labelled as “Sponsored” or “Promoted” and overseen by our commercial team. It never influences our editorial judgement. See Sponsored Content Policy.
- Affiliate content: articles that contain affiliate links to financial products, services or retailers. These are disclosed clearly, usually at the top or bottom of the article, and within the text where relevant. See Advertising & Affiliate Disclosure.
- Promotional material: any content that directly promotes a third-party product or service is labelled accordingly and kept separate from editorial reporting.
Readers will never encounter a piece where the line between independent journalism and commercial material is blurred.
Article-level transparency
Every article we publish carries the following identifiers, where applicable:
- a named byline with a link to the author’s profile on our Our Team page
- the date of publication and, where the article has been updated, a “last updated” date
- an editor or reviewer label indicating who handled the piece
- in-text source references, including links where possible
- disclosure of any press access, company briefings, review samples, data subscriptions or commercial relationships that informed the article
- a correction note linking to our Corrections Policy if the article has been post-publication corrected
Experience signals and methodology
We regard transparency about how we gather information as essential to trust. Where appropriate, articles include an explanation of the basis for the coverage. This might be: “Based on a company filing reviewed by the writer”, “Drawn from an official financial statement”, “Sourced from a public record”, “Analysed from regulatory documents”, “Derived from market data provided by [source]”, “Based on an interview with [name]”, “Following a company briefing”, “After independent product testing”, or “Original analysis by our markets team”. Our Business & Markets Reporting Policy provides further detail on how we handle financial and market data.
