Submitting an editorial complaint
MarketUK.uk is committed to maintaining high editorial standards and accuracy. If you believe we have published content that is factually incorrect, misleading, unfair or in breach of our editorial policy, you may submit a formal complaint. We take all complaints seriously and will investigate thoroughly.
Please send your complaint by email to complaints@marketuk.uk. Include the following information to help us process your case efficiently:
- The full URL (web address) of the article or page in question
- The publication date of the article
- The specific reason for your complaint (e.g. factual inaccuracy, misleading statement, unfair representation, breach of editorial standards)
- The exact statement, data, claim or passage you are challenging, quoted verbatim if possible
- Supporting evidence that demonstrates the error or concern (e.g. official documents, reliable third-party sources, screenshots, relevant correspondence)
- Your name and a contact email address or phone number so we can respond
We cannot investigate anonymous complaints, but we will treat your personal details confidentially and only use them for the purposes of handling your complaint.
How we handle complaints
We will acknowledge receipt of your complaint within five working days. The acknowledgement will include the name or reference of the person handling your case and an expected timeframe for resolution.
Our team, led by the Standards & Fact-Checking Lead Sophie Kendall, will review the complaint against our internal editorial standards. For straightforward matters we aim to respond fully within 10 working days. Complex complaints – for example those involving multiple sources, disputed external data or legal sensitivity – may require additional review and we will keep you informed of progress.
Possible outcomes include:
- Correction – an error is corrected and a note is added to the article or a dedicated corrections notice is published
- Clarification – we add context or explanation to remove ambiguity without altering the original journalistic conclusion
- Update – we add new information that supercedes or expands on the original content
- Removal – in rare cases, if content is demonstrably false or breaches policy, we may remove the article entirely
- No action – if after review we find no error or breach of standards, we will explain our reasoning to you
All outcomes are communicated in writing, with a clear explanation of our decision and any steps taken.
Escalation
If your complaint raises a serious matter – such as potential legal issues, significant factual errors affecting public interest, or a pattern of editorial failure – it will be escalated to our Editor-in-Chief, Edward Harcourt. You may request escalation by mentioning this in your initial complaint or by following up with us. Edward will review the handling and may commission an independent assessment where appropriate. You can contact him directly at edward.harcourt@marketuk.uk or on +44 20 4587 5481.
Distinction from corrections and privacy concerns
This complaints procedure is separate from our corrections policy, which covers how we handle and publish corrections after an error has been identified. If you are reporting a minor typographical or factual error without requiring a formal investigation, you may prefer to use the corrections policy instead.
Privacy-related concerns – such as requests to remove personal data, object to data processing, or report a breach of data protection – are handled under our privacy policy. Please direct those matters to privacy@marketuk.uk.
Supporting policies
We encourage you to read our full editorial policy to understand the standards to which we hold our content. For more information about our team and how to contact us for other purposes, see our contact page.
This complaints procedure does not affect your legal rights, including any right to make a complaint to the Independent Press Standards Organisation (IPSO) or other relevant regulator. We aim to resolve all complaints fairly and transparently.
