We rely on our readers, sources and industry professionals to help us uncover stories that matter to the British business community. Whether you have a tip about a company, a development in consumer finance, a market-moving piece of information or a document that sheds light on business practices affecting UK consumers or investors, we want to hear from you. This page explains what makes a strong tip, how to send it securely, and what happens after you get in touch.
What makes a good business tip?
The best tips are specific, verifiable and in the public interest. We are particularly interested in:
- Company news and corporate developments — mergers, acquisitions, management changes, financial results, product launches or closures that affect UK markets or consumers.
- Consumer finance stories — hidden fees, unfair lending practices, changes to mortgages, insurance, pensions or savings products that could impact household finances.
- Market-moving information — data on inflation, interest rates, employment, trade or sector trends that is not yet widely known.
- Data leaks or security breaches — unauthorised access to customer or business data, especially if it affects UK users.
- Regulatory developments — potential investigations, enforcement actions or policy changes at bodies such as the FCA, CMA, HMRC or the Competition Appeal Tribunal.
- Business practices affecting UK consumers or investors — misleading advertising, supply chain issues, labour disputes, environmental compliance or corporate governance concerns.
We never present rumours as facts. Every tip is assessed on its merit, and we only publish what we can stand behind editorially. For more detail on our standards, see our fact-checking policy and editorial policy.

How we verify tips

We never publish based on anonymous or unverified claims. You can read more about our verification procedures in our fact-checking policy.
